Portland, Oregon is having a 2 day event to highlight problems with the current mental health system and possible changes on May 13 and 14, 2011. I’ll be giving two presentations on the 14th, one on CBT for psychosis, and the other on the Open Dialogue approach. This should be accessible to a lot of people, as they are only asking for a small donation.

Ron,
It sounds like you’re doing a lot of good up there in Oregon.
It’s time some “re-thinking” took place with the current paradigm of care… In fact, it’s time for LOTS of “re-thinking”, until the one-size-fits-all medical management programs were replaced with ones that offer real hope… for wellness, for recovery, for thriving.
Thanks for being involved, for all you done!
My best,
Duane Sherry
There is no current paradigm of care. One is free to choose from many options. This is America.
Unfortunately, for those considered to have “psychotic” disorders, treatment options are often extremely limited. Sometimes people are literally forced to accept particular “treatments” by being locked up & injected, etc. More commonly, the limitation is that those who fund treatment only provide drug-oriented options, and in many areas, it is about impossible to find a professional who knows much about other approaches. In America, we have many different choices in most areas, but in mental health care for psychosis, not so much.
